I refuse to fish THE ROCK anymore!! Well until I go back acourse. Didn't do to well last night. One nice channel about 9 pr 10 lbs. had a lot of strikes and pulls but nothing that would take the hook line and sinker. I have had terrible luck on THE ROCK this year kitty fishing. I guess I stink. Gonna stick with Badin or Tuckertown for my catfishing right now. I feel like The Rock hates me. I'm doing something wrong. I'm going to start fishing with dynomite soon on that lake.

How you fishing? You should really try Maynard's strolling rigs. (Yadkin Guide). You can really put some cats in the boat with them. Its coming up on the best time of year to use them.

Thanks for the comments Sundance. I took out a guide trip on May 28 for catfish and had a great day. My client caught over 20 cats with 5 channels weighing over 8 pounds each and 2 were over 10 pounds. He also caught a 30 pound flathead (unexpected). He lost several nice cats also. The cats are not really tearing it up but you can still have a great time. By the way, all were caught while trolling on the rig that Sundance was talking about.

I have always done well drift fishing, but just can't master The Rock. I have tried to anchor on flats with live bait and cut bait, I have triend power trolling, I have tried about everything that I have been successful with at other lakes and rivers but The Rock is my nemis. What is this rig you are talking about?

It is actually called a Santee Catfish Rig (Google it). I use a 1.5 ounce weight followed by a swivel. Then attach a 24 inch leader on which is an inline 2 inch float pegged about 6 inches from the end. I use a 5/0 Kahle hook attached to the end of the leader and about 6 inches from the inline float. I use cut shad for bait most of the time. I power drift this with the trolling motor. This time of year catfish can be from 4 feet deep in the back of creeks (spawners) to 14 feet deep near the mouths of the creeks. I am not really catching them at this time on the river mostly in the creeks.

I have used the Santee Rig several times in the past. But not in several years because I have done so well with the Carolina Rig. Thanks so much for the info. I will sure to use it next week when I get off of night shift. This is why I love this site. So much good infomation from so many great folks!!
