Default jakes first fishing trip, broke him in at high rock

figured i would go and see if i could find some decent fish for the tourney this sat and since my partner had other things to do i thought it was high time my son got to ride in the boat and get some training in. first off i have no idea what happened to the crappie but finding size was a struggle and seemed like everything shut down around 10am, water was 69 at the start and got up to 76 by 3pm. the wife and son got to the lake around 1 and i picked them up and went back out for a ride, figured i would troll by a few places just to check anyway and we ran into this guy, i don't know if jake will remember the trip but me and the mrs sure will. we left shortly after, they don't take the heat very well. the flathead wieghed 22.1 and took a good 15 minutes to get in on the 20' rod. i think these things may have shut the crappie off as i caught about 4 of them after the crappie quit.Name: iPhone 046.jpg

That was a good first trip! that flat scared off the crappie, he could eat a 1lb crappie in one swaller and probably has many times before.

man don't time fly. i remember you sayin you had a new baby just a month or two ago seems like. guess its been longer than that. lol. amazing how those long poles wear them big cats out. he will remember by the pictures and will show his friends. they will wish their dad had taken them when they were that young. bumm is right about the cats and crappie. fellow told me it was not usual to clean one and find a pounder in the belly. nice memory you made today. like the set up. nice and clean, with room to spare looks like. good luck saturday.

jake will be 20 months old sunday, as for the room to spare looks can be decieving, though it has alot of storage room, sometimes i think i need a 30' boat thats 15' wide, but that 18' will have to do me for a long while, its really jakes boat i'm just breaking it in for him. and i will definetly need all the luck and prayer i can get come sat!

I've caught some big ones on the 16 foot Southern Crappie Rods with 6lb test. You're right it does take some time to get them in but it's crazy what these long rods can handle. Great photo by the way.

yes jake was named after a turkey and our wedding was in feb as to not interfere with hunting seasons, and jake was planed to be born in feb like wise, his birthday and our anniversary are a day apart. the real kicker is that the misses agreed to all this! i guess she isn't so bad after all.

I too was admiring the clean roomy look of your boat. What type of boat is it? Thanks for a good report. That is one lucky little boy. He has a lot of good fishing in his future.
