    Default GPS Fishfinder recommendations needed

    Hello,

I know there has been discussion on this topic before but I'm new to the subject and I thought there might be some new stuff that has come out since the last discussion. Anyone have recommendations for what GPS / Fishfinder electronics to get for a new boat? Mostly going to be used at the lake but will do a couple trips a year to the beach as well.

    Thanks in advance!

Get as much as you can safely afford. You won't regret it. I'm personally a Humminbird user and would recommend you get a side imaging unit. If you can't afford them, then you need to decide if you want color or black/white. Personally, I never thought color was needed unless you're going to use detailed mapping cards. Black/white will even look better in the sun.

    Check these out.

sundance, what do you know about the 570DI ? I have a lawrance X59 B/W and don't need GPS. I have a seperate GPS. I broke the transducer this morning. I don't want to replace the transducer if I am about to buy a new fishfinder.

I've owned a 580 and loved it. I've not used a DI unit in Black/White but I'm sure its pretty good. DI is just going to give you a narrow slice view of what is right under the boat. I've heard alot of complaints about DI but you've got to realize its only going to give you a very narrow window right under the boat. Especially in shallower water. You'd be surprised how hard it is to get right over submerged structure so you can get a really go picture of what's down there. Overall I like DI... but you have to get to use to how it works.

They have it on amazon for $279 with free super saver shipping.

I would make sure to get a chartplotter. The units that have gps, but are not chartplotters, aren't nearly as accurate.

of the things i like about my humminbirds, the accuracy of the gps is the most impressive of all.

Look at the Humminbird 597CI HD and the 788 CI HD. One of those will be my next unit.
