Default high rock is full of

water! headed down today for a half day trip to try and get this longlining thing out of my system. caught several nice white crappie in the mouth of abbotts. hard to believe how deep they were. caught them in 10 to 30ft. deepest fish were 24ft. caught a bunch of short fish. was going up river to a creek or two. saw the mud line coming about crow. bad! logs, trees, limbs, etc. headed back down river but the wind would not let me fish my intended choice. thats how i ended up in abbotts. couldn't get under any of the bridges. the mud line must have stalled the travel of some of the white bass heading up river. if you trolled about 1.2 to 1.5 you would start picking them up. easy to find on the finder. nothing to brag about, pound to a pound and a quarter. few small strippers as well. sure wish i had been tightlining, found some big piles of fish on channel breaks. i'm going to say that the river will be a mess for a day or two.

Hey Simpleman, just wondering if a trip to abbot creek is worth going,. Im going to be fishing from the bank and wanted your opinion whether i should go or not due to high rise in water level and water condition. Please advise me tonight. Thanks

if i was going to bank fish, i would look for a point or maybe some rip rap near the old road bed. i know what i'm suggesting doesn't fit the normal late march pattern, but this ain't been a normal march. the bait seems to be hanging around breaks and cover. i would try to have access to water from 2 feet to 14 if i could find it. cast long, slow back with jigs. parallel to the bank with float over jig. minnows on a slip float at varying depths. saw a lot of bank fisherman today, but they just weren't trying different methods. i believe if you pull out all the tricks you could snag a few.

Thanks for the report. I figured it would be a mess for a while. The white bass have been stacked up the lasts few times I've fished in the mouths of creeks and the channel breaks. A man with a cleo probably could tear them up pretty good. Its been a while since I've seen them that concentrated.

The muddy water won't stop fish from eating. It might slow them down the first couple days. Just realize they can't see as good and try to stay away from the muddiest water. If they can't see that well.... they move to a spot they can see better. A few feet might make a difference. They are not going to come from 10 feet away to get your bait. You might have to move around a lot and hit them pretty much in the nose. The key in muddy water is bait placement. I personally believe that still fishing with live bait works better in muddy water.

You can always find clearer water on High Rock. Flat swamp is hardly ever too muddy to fish. It is the deepest clearest creek on the lake. It might be muddy toward the mouth of the creek. You might have to put in down at the Flat swamp ramp. The train track might be too low to the water to get your boat under.
