about 12 years ago we did see one up in the s curves he was about 4 ft it was summer and it was back in a cove,as far as cold water or temps affecting them they will just bury up in the bottom they do not hibernate ,and also nc is home to alot of eastern alligators they are in the cape fear, sutton lake, north east all of your eastern creeks and rivers and there is one that lived in Godwin lake in Coats for about 25 years until some kids shot and killed it ,it was just over 7 ft and they are also in Rhodes pond we have seen them there numerous times alot of the population is from pets being released but some is from natural migration or movement also you used to could buy them at the area pet shops for 10.00 a piece .
may god send you calm sea,s and southwest winds

fishing from the couch in front of the tv doesnt count
I'm all the way up in northeastern North Carolina and we have alligators around here. There have been a few spotted on the intercoastal waterway up near Southmills in the uppermost part of the Pasquotank River and There are over a dozen in Merchants Millpond State Park in Gates County, NC. Don't ask me how, but they live and survive. Guess they just hibernate a little longer than normal.
Hey Tootsieroll, you familiar with the Poplar Branch and Grandy area over there?

absolutly possible..............to who said gators used to be only from georgia south, that is wrong......historically, gators used to range up the nc coast to just inside virginia......then after no regulation there northern range dropped back down into nc...........now some are being seen just back into coastal virginia...their historic range......most ones found in jordan are probaly releases but their natural range west from the coast is within walking distance of jordan lake, wouldnt be that hard for one to climb around buckhorn dam(10 ft) and then climb over jordan dam but probaly was a release ......some are seen ocasionally on the upper cape fear near raven rock park which is maybe 20 miles........a 10fter was taken out of a pond near fuquay a couple years ago and some gators even come up the neuse river to raleigh every now and then....a few years ago their were 3 in the neuse within the raleigh city limits............they just hibernate longer up here...cold doesnt really bother them it will just make them grow slower than gators farther south............biggest ever killed in nc was a 17 fter killed in catfish lake......plenty of gators along the coast of nc ..................mack
also , dont mess with them as they(the wardens will get you) it was problay over 10 years ago but some boys bowfishing jordan one night shot a 4 fter with a bow.........needless to say it got found out and they got fined.............

I hear everything ya'll are sayin' and I tend to believe that anything is possible. I'm sure that people have turned pet alligators loose...
and I don't doubt that alligators might range into some new territories more northeast than usual... and like some of you... I have heard
the stories about them being seen in some fairly uncommon areas in Central North Carolina. I have been fishing for many years in Central
North Carolina in the Cape Fear and all the big lakes and have never seen one or any sign of one. I do doubt however that one was spotted
in January in Jordan Lake... it is far more likely to me that it was something else that was simply mistaken for an alligator.

I think they may be in and around there... which reminds me of the time I fished at the lower end of the dam at Jordan Lake near the calmer waters. I just got done cutting up bait and washed my hands, after doing so, I saw a swirl of water out of no where within arms reach. I jumped back and my buddy laughed and looked at me like I was crazy... the very next day, this came out Alligator found on Randolph County road : News-Record.com : Greensboro & the Triad's most trusted source for local news and analysis
