In the 80's caught my first 5# Bass at Black Lake, many wonderful memories made there. Used to Rent a cottage at Shaffer's Cedar Grove, still owned by the Shaffer family, just Googled it. lol
Used to drift for crappies, best color back then was a bright blue Beetle type plastic. For Bass, used to bounce Crank baits off the rocks, also jig and pigs in the weeds!
Good luck
What time is it? IT'S CRAPPIE TIME!
Got to Black lake and the weather was good all weekend--a shower sunday afernoon--water temp was 65 degrees--fishing was a little slow but we got some nice crappie and lots of gills and sunnys---caught probably 30- 35 smallies and some real nice ones--2 to 3 1/2 pounders all on crappie tubes---tubes worked the best for the crappie --5 to 7 feet of water anchored and drifting slow --got some pictures to download and i will post !!!!

Have not been to Black lake in 3-4 years, but I think it has been overfished on the crappie. Especially in the winter. Been fishing over in Chipapwa Bay and hit a few creeks and bridges when I want crappie. Been retired since 03 and miss our trips with the guys from work. We used to stay above the bridge and rent 3-4 cottages but have fished the other end also plus over by the river near Rossi. Just isn't the same but we might go this year.
