    Smile Quite Fishin Spot

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a smaller, relatively calm lake to do some fishing on. For years I have fished Chautauqua in a big Lund with a 75HP outboard. Ran all over the lake and did pretty good for 30 years. Now that I am 72 couldn't handle the Lund any more. Just got a small PONDTOON fishing boat with a 20HP outboard. Kind of setup to help handicapped people. Great boat to fish out of but I need fairly calm water and not long runs to fishing spots. I would like a nice fishing camp some where with nice clean cabins for the wife and I. With good docking and a good boat launch on the site or close by. My wife can't drive the truck and I can't walk real well so distant places to launch don't work for me. Any kind of fishing would be fine; pan fish, bass, walleye just love to get out on my boat, spend the day and fish. Don't keep much of anything I catch maybe one meal of crappie for the week if I'm lucky. Again, Thanks for any help I get!!

No Cabins but Cowanesque/Hamond Dam or Ives Run near Tioga Pa should meet the rest of your needs. Should be Motels near by.

    Zinger,
They say that patience is a virtue. What area of the state do you reside/fish. Once others know the part of the state that is within a reasonable distance from your location home, recommendations can/ will be made. Off hand, I would recommend you look into one of the bay's off of Lake Ontario. Between Rochester and Syracuse you have I bay,Sodus,East, Port, fairhaven( aka little Sodus). Syracuse north to Saint Lawrence river, Sandy ponds, Henderson, Chaumont, and Mud bay
Then, you have the smaller finger lakes, Conesus, Honeoye, Onondaga. Once your location is learned, we will be able to centralize a specific body of water with recommendations on launch site, lodging if needed,

Thanks John, lots of good advise! I will check these out. I'm from Pittsburgh and anything west of I 81 would be good.

Closest lake of the ones stated would be Conesus Lake. However were still talking 297 miles. On east lake road you will find the state boat launch $7 July 11, and lodging at the Conesus Lake Campgrounds. They have cabin rentals at $65 daily, sleeps four. But I believe the cabins are without bathrooms and kitchens. Believe there isolated restrooms/showers throughout the campi grounds. Don't believe the least expensive cabins ade limited believe two. There are also lodges sleeping four at $105 nightly or cottAges that sleep six at $115 nightly. Also camping area, tent site $34, electric & water $39, full hook up $43. In addition to Conesus lake you have Honeoye lake just 12 miles east of Conesus on route 20a. The state launch is also on east lake road of Honeoye lake.

honeoye lake- approximately 4.5 miles long . 8 mile wide. Deepest part 30 feet. Weeds around perimeter of lake from shore to 15 ft. (Eel grass, pondweed, milfoil)
Fish- bass both large & smallmouth, walleye, chain pickerel, known for big blue gills, also black crappie, pumpkinseed and perch.

Conesus lake- 8 miles long, 1mile wide. About 60 feet deep. Weeds to 15 feet( milfoil) weeds around perimeter
fish- bass both large & smallmouth, Pike, walleye( infrequent) perch, bluegills and sunfish. With a slight possibility of a tiger muskie( cross between northern pike and musky.

    see website: conesuslakecampgrounds.com

hopr this helps, realize it's almost 300 miles but that's what you get living outside Nys within 150 miles I ca get to all the places I mentioned in earlier text.

Ps: due to heavy usage of both lakes as tournament bass lakes by both ny and pa clubs, I would suggest planning a zee visit during the week.

John, Thanks again for so much helpful information. After reviewing all your info and more research on line, I think I'm going to try Conesus Lake. We actually visited it once on a trip to Seneca Lake. A guy had some rentals on the north west side of the lake. Checking for rentals on line and VRBO. Hope to go late August or early September. Thanlks again for all your interest and help. The trip won't be bad, just a nice ride through some beautiful country. Don't mind traveling a little, just make it all part of the fun of the vacation.
