Wishing you Blue Skies and Tight Lines
Not a whole lot of people fish for crappie all year in NY mostly ice fish and spring. the last 5-7 yrs. black lake crappie have gotten smaller from what i have heard.
Black lake is excellent for crappie fiest week in may is really good and into end of may too.
Summer good too but harder to find usuallly
1St week in may is excellent and not bad the rest of the month. summer is ok too but deeper.
yes 3 rods and 5 hooks per rod.
You mean as opposed to casting? I do a lot of trolling/drifting. I guess that would be tight line. drop jigs down to target depth (as determined by the fishfinder), then either troll slow, meaning my 30lb thrust Min-kota at lowest speed setting, or if there is a breeze, take advantage of the wind to do a drift. For trolling I have a rod holder on each side and use 9' rods pointed almost straight out to the side, and a third rod holder on the transom. Since it's low speed, I don't need a tom of line out. As long as I don't make any tight turns, everything stays untangled.
For drifting, I tie a drift sock to the bow so that I stay pretty well broadside to the wind, then run all three rods off the up-wind side of the boat.
friends of mine were on black for a 4 day weekend and had terrible luck
