    Default Heading to the Lake

Am about ready head down to our lake for a day of fishing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so we can find a few to stink up the fry pan. Haven't been out since early Spring. EB

Hey teg we didn't do to bad for this year. We caught a mixed bag and brought 19 fish home. We kept 8 really nice sized Crappie and then had some Bluegill, Yellow Perch and some Fresh Water Drum to add to the catch. The Crappie was hard to find at first but talked to a guy and he said he caught some early in the morning in about 15 ft and they was down about 7-1/2 feet. I moved out to 15 ft and could see some so just trolled around in that depth and caught a few but was smaller. We caught the better Crappie off of docks in about 12 ft of water and almost to the bottom. We cast to the docks and let the lures or baits sink down and then start a slow retrieve and they would hit out in front of the docks. I watched several come up and take my lure. My wife used minnows and I used a 1/16th Chartruese marabou jig, and a red and white umbrella tail on a 1/16 oz plain ball head jig with a red hook. The water temp was 81 over most of the lake. The fish weren't where they should have been for this time of year. We tried different parts of the lake that I normally wouldn't have tried for this time of year. The guy at the bait shop said no one is really catching a lot of Crappie this year. One female still had some eggs in her yet. All in all it was a pretty good day on the lake. EB

what lake was this EB? I have been doing pretty good at Walnut Creek in Papillion - they seem to hang out in the group of trees straight out from the boat ramp and a little to the right. There is one spot I hit that's about 18 feet and they are pretty much on the bottom. I usually use live minnows with a slip bobber and some times when I set it that close to the bottom I end up with a few catfish but that's ok with me as I love catfish.

I went out to Zorinski last week and just worked the shores for large mouths - caught a bunch of mid size and one monster - that was a lot of fun as he did not want to be caught and put up a great fight. Heck all I wanted to was get him in the boat for a picture and then I let him go lol - 19 inches 2.5 lbs

Monday I'm probably gonna head out to Wanahoo - haven't been out there this year yet.

I was down at Beaver Lake south of Plattsmouth. This is the first year I have seen it this bad on this lake. We are going to try Wanahoo sometime. We also want to try Summit Lake at Tekamah. Haven't been there since they redid the lake. EB

I have to limit myself to the no wake lakes - my boat is only a 8 foot pond hopper - but it gets the job done, it's a lot of fun and I can get in deep amongst the trees like at Wanahoo.

one of these years I'm gonna get a nice bass boat but for now I'm happy especially since I bought a trailer for my boat which saves me from loading and unloading into the back of my truck.

I regret getting rid of the one I had. I used it for the no wake lakes but didn't see any sense in having both so got rid of it. What size trolling motor do you have on yours? EB

Still haven't made it out to summit, ever. I've heard that the crappie at Wanahoo are still good, but the quality large ones are hard to find. You'll see a lot of the 10" ones, I keep hearing.

I have a 3hp MK electric that I used on mine and now use it on my 18-1/2 ft walk-thru and it moves it along pretty good for back trolling. EB
