South of Brady, NE...actually any of the canal/canyon lakes West of and including Johnson reservoir are good for crappie.

Jeffrey can be some good winter fishing when the water cools if you haven't tried it yet!

Who told you Wanahoo was private? It's a Nebraska parks and rec lake ... you need a pass to get in but it's open to the public .... I think a day pass is $4 - I usually get the yearly one for $12 and that gets you in all the state parks that require a pass. I fish Wanahoo a lot but never pulled a 14-1/2 out of there - think I might make a trip as I haven't gone there this year yet.

I was talking about Beaver Lake south of Plattsmouth being private! and no Wanahoo is a state lake like you said and it is open to the public but need a park sticker to get in. I fished it last year and pulled some 13 and 14 inch Crappie out of it. A friend of mine's kid fished it earlier and they was the ones that caught the 14-1/2 inch Crappie out of it and yes there are bigger fish than that in there. That lake has been built for a long time but was just opened a few years ago.
They really need to pave or blacktop the road going to it from hwy 77. It is like a wash board going to it and knocked out my trolling motor the first time I went there. It just shuck it to death. EB

I kind of thought you were talking about Beaver Lake but wasn't sure. Yeah you are right they really need to pave those roads leading to Wanahoo - I might take the track out on my next days off which are Sun-Tue. Get in on that action - cause Walnut Creek my usual lake to fish is only producing 10-12" on a good day. I live in Bellevue so that drive out to Wanahoo is a bit long but 14 inch slabs would make it worth it. I have a little 8' pond boat so I can get into those trees real good.

I'm sure you have heard of the new lake they are building west of Warner Park off hwy 370 - it will be a few years before it will be any good for fishing but nice there will be another lake to fish close by.

Yes I have been out to see it. It is completed but will take a few years to fill unless we get a few more rains like we got earlier in the week. It will be a really nice lake when it is opened. They have it stocked already, so the fish will be good sized when it is opened.
There are suppose to be 2 more little lakes to the East of that one yet. They had the money allotted or allocated for the 3 lakes but the NRD spent all the money on this first one. It will be a few more years before the next 2 can be built now. EB

Caught some keepers (ten total) this morning out at Walnut Creek - using live minnows - probably would have filled my limit but I had to things to do in the afternoon.
