Holy smoke, Chris. That looks awful. Hope you can get better and not have to have surgery.
Take care and follow doctor's orders.
Well, I'm out for the rest of the year.
Friday afternoon, I took a trip out to the Shadow Lake for some bluegills, I did pretty well Thursday night. After catching the first bluegill I got down the bank with the bucket to fill it with water and put the gill in. As I turned my body towards the bank to step up on it, I heard a loud POP! Felt a sharp pain in my knee, OUCH! A big SPLASH! as I hit the water and then a few CURSE! words. I grabbed my knee and instantly felt what happened. My left knee cap popped out of place. Talk about pain. I couldn't move my leg, couldn't straighten it, couldn't bend it. I managed to pull myself a little closer to the bank, but it hurt too much to try and pull myself out of water and onto the bank. I called for help for about 20 - 30 min but no one heard me. I ended up checking to see if my cell phone would still work despite being wet. Thankfully it did I called 911.
I don't know how much painkillers they injected into me, but the end result was them not being able to pop my knee cap back in place but still discharging me from the hospital. Getting out of the car, I heard another pop and realized my patella popped back into place. But I still needed the brace to the immobilize my knee and crutches to keep the weight off of it. Hopefully by the end of the week I can get Orthopedics to tell me whether or not I will need surgery.
My left leg is straighten out here, and as you can see the patella is completely dislocated to the left.

When I keep my gratitude higher than my expectations I have a good day
Ouch comes to mind. Best wishes on the recovery. Odd that the hospital could not get the knee cap back in place but you can do it both ways without even trying. Again, best wishes on the recovery.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
I was told the reason why the knee cap would not pop back into place was because the MRI showed tears in my ligaments or tendons. They also said they could not perform surgery because they had no orthopedic surgeon on call that night. Which is why they braced it, gave me crutches and some pain medications and sent me on my way.
Sorry to hear about your mishap Chris. Between the two of us we might make a complete person. My knee was starting to feel better after having some therapy. Sunday after service I was waiting for people to thin out and I stood up and a Friend came over to talk to me. A little kid come running down the isle and went between us and pushed sideways against my knee. I about passed out. My wife and friend grabbed me before I went down. I think I am back to square one again. I have an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon on the 16th. I have too many things to do before winter gets here to be down. Sorry to hear about your knee, Chris. EB
DO-GOODER EXTRADINAR :p
I've been putting ice packs on my knee, but the swelling does not go down. Which makes me think its more fluid than actual inflammation of the muscles. The 15th can't get here soon enough.
Wow Chris! That looks painful! Hope your back on both legs soon.
All fishing, all the time!
No surgery for the knee!
Thank goodness for that. They gave me a support brace with a horseshoe in it to help support the knee while I walk around on it. The instance I put it in and took a few steps on the crutches I felt I didn't need the crutches. I had to take my time and not speed walk like I usually do. Nor can I walk normally up and down the stairs. 6 - 8 weeks of physical therapy to get back to the range of motion that I am used to.
I'm ready to move on from this injury.
good to hear, keep up the therapy.
