Thread: A little birdie told me...

That crappie are on the beds at Wehrspann.

I was suppose to go out to Stagecoach with a buddy today, but he got sick over the week. So I made a quick phone call to a friend of mine, her son has been begging for me to take him fishing. So i figured why not today. Ran over to Cubby's for bait, minnows, worms and liver (that was for later). We start at Walnut Creek, but after an hour of nothing. I told him we would try Halleck Pond and see if there was anymore trout in there. Was a little crowded, but we managed to squeeze into my favorite spot. I just decided to have a #4 hook, worm and split shot. Rigged both poles that way, told him to cast it out and let it sink, reel in the slack and wait for the line to move. He is like his grandfather, impatient. After 30 seconds he slowly starts reeling it in, then stops it, then reels it in, stops it, then he is pretty much by the bank and decides to recast it. While mine is still in the same spot. I grab my big catfishing pole and start to rig it with chicken liver, while this is happening, i notice my pole is moving. I tell him to check mine, he does, at first he thought nothing was on it, but he quickly found out there was. Never seen him so excited before. But he got bored quickly, haha, kids. Finally I told him. I'll hook them, you reeling them in. So while I'm holding two poles waiting for a trout to bite, I sense the bite, i jerk it back to set the hook and call him over to start reeling it in. We caught 6 total. Should have been more, but he wanted to go home after 2 hours. And I missed a couple of bites while I had my head turned trying to keep an eye on him.

Well, at least he had fun, but I am worn out. I'll try to go crappie fishing before church service.

well, I learned an important lesson today.

When someone tells you that him and his buddy took 90 crappie combined from a certain at a certain lake, its not a good idea to go to that spot figuring you might have the same luck...
