Yes I know where you got it. As I have done studies myself on this. Thus my Biology and Environmental background. There are good theories out there on this and some I agree with and others I dont. But definitively there isnt an exact 100% accurate proven theory on this as of yet. Unless it has been published in the last year and I have not seen it yet.

Personally based on our data that we collected over 2 years at various lakes in the south, we were not able to pin point the exact DNA profile differences in our studies. Mostly due to lack of adequate equipment to do so at the time. At any rate, they still taste good!

No. Scientists at Auburn University have determined that blacknose crappie are a genetic variation of black crappie and not a hybrid of white and black crappie or a subspecies.
That's odd. I was reading a whole article today on how they produce them. Oh well, it doesn't really matter either way. I've caught a handful of them in Truman but no real big ones.

Agree........the blacks we have caught seem to be better fighters than the whites. I've never caught one of the black nose, though........hope to one of these days.

I personally have yet to catch one with a stripe but have to agree so far the Blacks put up the best fight and for the most part they always seem to run alittle bigger and have wider shoulders than the whites do.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

I caught a 2 lbs 6oz in Piney on Table Rock last spring and she thought she was a white bass the way she took off.
I agree the Blacks tend to run and pull a little harder than the whites in general.

I am no expert on the Black Nose Crappie, Clinton Il is a power plant lake and you can catch them there. Unscientific results but I am going to keep a little better data going forward.
Guessing you catch about 1 white crappie out of 20 there. Todays results were 5 fish in the boat, 2 were black nose, biggest was 11 inches the one right below was also a 9 inch black nose. The 3 other blacks were in the 9 to 10 range - 0 white crappie. Only threwback 2 shorts 1- blacknose 1-black. As far as fighting harder, there is no evidence from me that they consistently fight harder. Last 2 trips the biggest fish was a blacknose crappie.
