    Default Oil Drain Plug Problem

I have a 2016 Mercury 115 4-Stroke. Went to change my oil today and after draining oil the vent plug won't tighten....just gets kinda snug then spins freely. Is it more likely the plug threads are stripped? This is the main engine oil plug NOT the lower unit plug. Any advice thanks in advance.

Two different mechanics said not to re-thread bc it's too risky. If it ever failed running down the lake the engine would be toast.

Had the threads strip out on my Polaris Ranger, put this rubber expandable oil plug in it and it's works great.
