    Default Wiring Question

I know a plain Helix 7 might seem ancient but that's all I have. Every time I start the motor the units cut off and it's not bc of a low battery. I was told wiring them directly to the battery instead of the fuse box would help. The bow unit has two blue wires running to the fuse box. What are the blue wires?

There is a whole list of things that could be causing your voltage to drop shutting off your helix when you start the big motor, but if you push the power button on the helix and let off you will see a drop down that has a standby tab arrow down to it and arrow right and the screen will go black. Start your motor then push the power button in the helix and it will come right back to the screen you were on. Have someone hold a multimeter on your battery while you crank it and see what your voltage drops to while cranking it.

Had the same problem with my old boat. It ended up being a loose fitting on my ground wire. Replace the spade connection and problem solved. Good luck

Must be a feature on the newer Helix mine doesn't have standby mode. I'm just really confused what the blue wires are

Blue wires could be anything. Boats don't have a wiring standard. At the bow I would expect running and or docking or if the manufacture was nice they are auxiliary wires.

The say not to use starting batteries because the charging circuit can be noisy and impede the sonor return.
Richard is right about poor grounding.
Skeeter is thinking the right path with testing the battery. If it's old I would take it in to be tested. If it's too small you could have trouble too. But think about your car, everything turns off while its cranking too (although its wired that way).
