They charged you $3 a dozen? WOW!
I'm afraid that we are out of luck down here for now. Sure wish Trantham's was still open.
I went by Moore's Market this morning on North Glenstone and told them just to give me 5 dozen. Well after $15.01 dollars taken out of my pocket I got my minnows. Well get home and Paula puts them into the 110 gallon tank. Paula yells out to me bring a knife and a filet board! She said some of them were large enough almost to eat! Sure not crappie minnows!
I don't mind buying them around a lake but normally I am already on the water before most places open up. Does anyone have any ideas? I used to buy them by the pound over at Tranthams, but now they are out of business.

Yep $15.01 for 5 dozen and they are big enough to eat!
Ok I am taking a shot in the dark here so hold on! When I first got my boat in 2008 I was going thru jig skirts like mad! So I found a old boy down at Joplin who had a online store on eBay. I think my first order was for about 8,000+ jig skirts! Then in about a month later I ordered another 5,000+ jig skirts because the wife had decided I didn't get enough pretty ones! DONT ASK!!! . So I found out that this same old boy was hauling live bait to Trantham's too! Heck when I was fishing I was buying about 3 to 5 pounds at a time of small minnows. So I found the old boy on eBay tonight and I sent him a PM to see if he was still hauling live bait.
I am going to see where this goes! I have spent the last 2 hours online looking for minnows dealers around here without any luck.
The story I have heard on Trantham's is that the business had been run for the last several years by the son in law and he didn't keep it up. Lots of folks purchased live minnows from him.
I have a 110 gallon tank, if I could get some more equipment easy enough I might share some. I am sure glad that I decided to setup the tank. My Lowes boat has minnow buckets in it. I also have a air pump system hooked up to it. So I can fill up one livewell on the front of the boat with water. I fill one minnow bucket up with minnows and turn on the air system. Then when I get to the lake I fill up the other livewell and then put some minnows in the back livewell if there is someone fishing with me.
there is a place down hwy 5 inside ark. that sells them, don't know the name but could find out.

I think they are $12 something a pound at the gas station in Alrich, just noticed they had a by the pound option when I picked some up this week.
Anyone ever seen a place doing oxy bags??? Used to buy them in oxy bags when I lived up nort dere in minisoda. Keeps them frisky and you can haul them a good ways without them dying.
If I were selling minners I'd be doing oxy bags.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
