If they want to do another cookout, I’ll make a cobbler.

God bless Charlie Brewer and Bobby Garland.
Made a call.
The Corps of Engineers owns the boat ramp.
They have it leased to the City of Deepwater. The City of Deepwater is responsible for maintenance/repair.

The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
I believe the COE owns all the ramps/launches on the lake. As far as I know there is no private ramps/property on the lake. With out these guys who have formed this group "Friends of Deepwater boat ramp" this ramp/area would be just like Otter Creek, Clear Creek, PrettyBob, and the Tightwad ramps. Basically unusable by the average boater/fisherman. Not sure how the "lease" works but I don't see the booming metropolis of Deepwater being able to or willing to pay anything to lease it with nothing in return.

Gotta tell ya I have used that ramp many times years ago and you could lose a trailer off the end of it without trying.
I for one quit using as did many people for that reason.
I have used it since these folks took it upon themselves to improve it and it's nice to have up and usable in that area of the lake.
I will gladly donate to them for the hard work they have done and continue to do. I don't give two sh%ts who owns or leases it.
They obviously don't care what shape it was in.

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
After the rock they added settles from some trailer usage they are going to add a little more. I know the money that was paid for the rock came out of the two guys pocket that have "taken over" cleaning and fixing the bathrooms/ramp/pavilion and mowing of the grounds. That's why I suggested to them they do some fundraisers so it's not all their time invested and money invested in to it. They are the kinds of guys that will do it with or with out other people's help/money. Just a couple great guys that want to make it look nice and be usable again. Brent and Mark are stand up guys.
I also will use it more now that the dock will be able to be used again and no more drop off at the end of the ramp when the water level is low. With the dock I can fish alone and tie off while parking or getting the truck/trailer backed in.

You are correct Jared. Deepwater can't afford it. A self-pay setup and fee would help. That, and the guys willing to do the work would improve things.
No idea what they pay to lease it. But Deepwater will never make money from it.

What is the fee for Smithville up to now? Only been there once and fished with DoubleD that time. But I remember people talking about how high it was back then. I buy the annual COE pass for using Sparrowfoot, Talley Bend and others. Saves having to fill out the form each time and come up with the couple dollars or cost each time. It's probably cheaper than the gas in he truck used driving on to a free ramp.
