Couple guys I know fish there off & on. Slim pickins for crappie. They say there more snakes there than they have ever seen in the summer. Never been there myself except a drive by.
Good luck if you go. Brrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! I understand stir crazy.
I’ve never heard good things about it for crappie, but I’m thinking about going on January 8th and trying it out. I know it’s probably going to be cold but I’m getting stir crazy. I don’t own a boat, so it will all be from the bank.
Have any of you ever fished it, and if so did you catch anything? Would it be easy to fish from the bank?
Thanks for listening to a bored man babble.

I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
I used to fish it. Crappie are stunted bad and not worth going after. The bass population is or was outstanding though. If you can get to the warm water discharge area by foot the white bass and hybrids should be good.
There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
It’s the only place I could think of that wouldn’t have any ice. I figure if all else fails I will catfish.

Taken from MDC website, as I looked up the lake because I had never heard of it "Montrose Lake is closed to fishing from October 15th through the end of duck season."
You may want to confirm this, though.

I think the 7th is the last day of the season. I live fairly close so if I get there and it’s closed it’s no big deal. I do appreciate you taking the time to research it and respond.

Check out this thread. There's some good info in there about fishing on the discharge side. Maybe you can fish that area?

Thanks for the link, that gives me a starting place. I’m assuming it won’t be too crowded and I can hike around and try multiple spots but for all I know a lot of it might be inaccessible.

I would go below the dam at Truman, I think you would have alot better chance there.
You are probably right. I was just trying to think of somewhere that wouldn’t be frozen over. I don’t know if there is is down at the dam or not, has anyone looked?
