Sometimes it is good to know the right time to call for help

The other day, I decided to winterize the old crappie battleship. No big deal, I've always done it and I know after you pull those four drain plugs out of the big old v8, you let her drain for a while, maybe as long as it takes to enjoy a cold adult beverage, then go back into that awkward position where you wish you had two more elbow joints on your arm to reach down and screw the plastic drain plugs back into the engine...that's made out of metal...knowing from past "experience" that said plastic drain plugs break off really easy...and then...on the last one...the one clear down on the bottom toward the back of the motor...DOINK! Broke it!
So, over the course of 4 days and many expletives, I was finally willing to throw in the towel! I had used every tool known to man, went out and bought some more, but could not get that old threaded plug out! So, I figured I better quit before I broke something else or caught something (like a boat or a barn) on fire!
I called Keeferfish's boat mechanic who I have also used over the years and he said he would come over to take a look at it next week. Then, he asked me if I had any luck taking the entire fitting off the motor so I could clean it out better and actually see what I was doing. Wait....you mean you can do that??? Huh! It's amazing how easy a job can be when you talk to someone who actually knows what the heck they are doing!!!!😆
I don't think I will be changing careers to be a boat mechanic anytime soon, but in case anyone comes across this little dilemma....it takes a 5/8 socket!
And if you need an awesome boat mechanic in the KC area, Bill and I can hook you up with one of the best! I know I owe him a cold one!
To think I was almost ready to run out of good swear words!!!!👹

Replace those drain plugs with petcocks and you can just open them up and let the water drain out. That's what I did with my v8. Then take a five gallon bucket of 50/50 antifreeze and put the engine's water pick up hose in the bucket and start it up till the bucket is empty.
Mark, let me know if you need any new swear words, been a mechanic my whole life and still make them up fresh daily.
