    Default Looks like new motor

Benn having trouble with 21 yr old Evinrude 35 jet. Won't run at full throttle. Will for a second then dog down. Run for a second then nothing. Idled and runs slow fine. 2 trips to shop and not fixed. Carb work, new gas line in motor, new gas hose from tank and still the same. Took another hose and different tank and tried it out today. Ran the same like crap. Then it didn't want run at all. Then wouldn't start. So hubby went up to trolling motor to get us back to ramp and the stupid thing tried to start with key shut off. Did that a couple of times before hubby could get battery disconnected. Never had that happen before. So I think we are giving up on it. Tired of driving back and forth to shop. 21 yrs old is pretty good for motor. Looks like a new Mercury 40 hsp jet is in our future soon. A new Evinrude 40 jet is $2000.00 higher than Mercury or Yamaha. Checked at different places. St. Charles boat place wants $750 to install motor. I don't think so. Other place is $240.

Maybe you need a different mechanic.

The fishing is always great. The catching varies.

At 62 I think we deserve a new motor. It will last the rest of our fishing days. We like fishing rivers so that is why the jet. The only other new motor we bought is a 2004 merc 25 that is a prop. Use it on Missouri and lakes. It replaced a 22 yr old Johnson.

Don't be afraid of Yamaha. I love my 70 4 stroke. Excellent.

Sounds like you've had good luck with your motor. Unfortunately they do wear out eventually. I hope you have the new one a long time as well
