I like GPS. Worth $100.
I am going to update my primary depth finder. I don't know if I need a GPS in the unit or not. I have a GPS in my Ulterra Trolling motor that I am just now learning how to use. I like the new Lowrance Hook 5X (or 7) with the new "Chirp," technology and are at the max of my budget. The GPS adds $100 to the price of the unit. My gut is forget the GPS.
Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.
It depends on the spots you fish. I have over 300 waypoints on my GPS for the lake I try to fish. It is a little over 7000 acres, but the waypoints are mostly in what I would call the "primary body of water" of about 2000-3000 acres. If you know how to get to all of your good fishing spots with no searching around when you get there, then you really don't need it. But if you could save for another month, or 6 weeks, or whatever, you will still get your unit before the end of the year and you will never regret having the GPS.
This is the first year I've had a finder with GPS on it and I like it, especially in fog or at night it's really handy. Adding a map chip to it has helped me a lot.

Look at it this way, and I always say this, It is better to have it and not need it ,,,,Than to need it and not have it....
