Default Be careful in the woods chasing turkeys

Had an incident happen to some friends and there son sunday. They were behind our house sunday morning for the youth hunt. They were on our property. They called in 4 jakes and 1 long beard but the son missed. The turkeys went behind them. Between them and one of our deer stands. Still on our property. All of a sudden some one shot and they were pelted by pellets. WTH. The mom went looking for who shot. She found a guy and son on our property. They had shot. She told them you had to know we were there we just shot. The guy tried to tell them his dad owned the property. They knew better but didn't argue with him. They just left. Not very many neighbors back there and have it narrowed down to one house. Could be that guys son and grandson. The guy doesn't own anything back there. He is just a "caretaker"/moocher. The friend is going to be hunting there during turkey season. Told him if someone gives him trouble send the guy down to me or get his name or were he is suppose to belong and I will take care of it. So glad no one was hurt. It could have been much worse.

Yeah we have had some neighbors that were doing the same thing deer season. One guy thinks that just because he owns 20 acres he should be allowed to hunt on everyone else's place.

You were very lucky that someone wasn't hurt.

That is exactly why I stopped turkey hunting in 1987. Had an older gentlemen cross our fence from state ground. I called in a bird between the two of us. I didn't know the other guy was there until he shot. He killed the turkey but I was right in the line of site. Pellets hit all around me. After a major Come To Jesus meeting with the trespasser, I headed back to the cabin and swore off spring turkey season. Became a dedicated spring time crappie hunter instead. I get my turkeys at grocery store now already cleaned and frozen. Have yet to be mistaken for a crappie.

Had a buddy told me a similar story today on trespassing. People just don't respect fence lines !

The trespassing wasn't the big issue. It was them shooting in the direction of our friends and sending pellets around them and the guy claiming his dad owned the property. Because if it is who I think it was he owns NOTHING. The friends son had already shot so they should have known there was people that way.
