    Default Battery Maintenance

I'm new to deep cycle battery maintenance and my questions is when adding water to the battery is how much water to add and if there is a such thing as adding too much water? I've also heard that using distilled water is a good thing. Can anyone tell me what should the water level be in the cells and what's your opinion on distilled water?

    Thanks in advance
    Chris

They should be filled the same as auto batteries, up to the bottom of the short tube that extends into the cell under the cap. Yes on the distilled water it will make your battery last longer. I know a lot of you all say it doesn't make any difference. but any other type of water even drinking water is not recommended. I always keep a gallon on hand.

Distilled in batteries, irons, steamers, etc. Keeping the mineral content down will pay off in longer life of the product.

I agree 100% about using distilled water in batteries, but the maintenance boss at work decided about a year ago it doesn't matter. They have a rig that they hook to the 4 year old (not cheap) electric Toyota forklift in my department and top the batteries with city water. Hmmmm 4 year old forklift and had to replace the batteries already... I think the new battery pack was around $10,000 or so

Even if the distilled water only extended them a year that would have been very cost effective.

I think they used distilled in the original set, but the kid responsible for keeping them topped off didn't so they got the system from Toyota to top them off with city water. I am curious how long this set will last
