    Default Atlatl?

Hey I know a bunch of us are also hunters in Missouri.

Just reading my September 2010 Missouri Conservationist Magazine. Noticed that there was some changes in Deer Season for this fall. "Hunters can use atlatis to hunt deer during all portions of the firearms deer season except the muzzleloader portion."

Now my question was just what in the heck is atlatis? So my fellow rednecks I decided to look it up, couldn't find anything. Finally I went to the Missouri Department of Conservation website. This is what I have found out.

⦁ atlatl, which is defined as a rod or narrow board-like device
used to launch, through a throwing motion of the arm, a
dart 5 to 8 feet in length.

Now I really want to go out in the woods with a dart 5 to 8 feet in length with everyone else having a firearm. Granted its been a few years since I hunted deer. But the best I remember it's not easy to get a deer to stand still long enough for me to get a good shot off. And sometimes it takes more than a few shots from my 30-06.:D:D Now just what kind of nut case would want to go out and throw a 5 to 8 foot dart at a deer? If I am going to go kill something to eat I sure don't want the animal to suffer anymore than possible. Makes you kind of wonder what kind of nut cases we have in Jefferson City running the show.

Just my thoughts on the matter!

Kind of what I thought, pvasst1. I understand Bow hunting and have seen what kind of killing power Bows have. I have also shot out the heart of a deer with a 30-06 on a deer and had them run almost a quarter mile before they went down.

I think this is what happens when you have pencil pushers running things.

HEY, HEY, HEY, I live in Jefferson City!!:D

Seriously, never heard of it. I am sure it is like most other political decisions, some dipstick found some long lost hunting technique and then complained about having his life ruined because it wasn't listed in the regs. Prolly not 3 people in the whole state that hunt that way but, by gawd, we gotta make sure it is listed or said dipstick will sue.

Excuse me gentlemen but i've been taking small game with an atlatis for years, myself and several other residents around here spoke with the powers that be and have finally got this weapon listed as a means of taking deer, just because you've never used or heard of a weapon don't mean its not a great way to take a deer, you have to be all man to sling an arrow accurately and with such force to do significant damage to a large animal such as a deer i guess thats why ole DW has never even heard of one:p:p:p

I also use the aforementioned apparatus, and have since 1964 killed my first grizz just north of hoberg and had to sleep in the belley of the beast for 7 days till the blizzard quit. since then I have killed or wounded at least 300 ungulates, and 3or 5 turkeys. one of the best wife tammers on the market today.
