I am no help but sounds like a good plan. My uncle has a huge raised garden that is watered in the same way. I will see how he has his set up. If that does not work mysteriously have a goat show up. It would cut watering time down.
With Miss Jane going to Texas about one week a month, she always tasks me and Speck Jr. with watering her plants. She has landscaped all the way around the outside of our house and has more stupid flowers and bushes and different fu fu things growing there than I care to tend. If I did it right, it would take about 2 hours every evening after work. That cuts into my crappie.com time as well as other important stuff I want to do. I always wind up in the dog house when she gets home because we forgot to water the plants. I started thinking about modifying a lawn sprinkler system with a timer. Don't really mind burying water line or whatever else I need. Trouble is, I've never installed one of these systems. Do any of you all have any experience with them or advice you can offer? Thanks a bunch.

Thanks Jared. I'm guessing that the main water line would need to be buried down at least 18" to get below the frost line? I would probably need an air fitting to be able to blow it out in the fall with the air compresser?

Speck What About A Soaker Hose?
Can't find something like that at the Home Depot or Lowes?
We used them back in the desert for the plants because watering was restricted from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, they were actually used for PVC systems, but I'm sure there is a way to attach a regular hose fitting to it. Then you can roll it up and put it away in the winter.
Try Google yet?

Chris,
Even if you went with the PVC system and buried it you shouldn't need to bury it anymore than a couple of inches deep. Rain Bird is one of the major brands of the actual heads. They are the brand I have in my system and there are all different types for different spray patterns. The reason I say it doens't need to be buried deep is because you put a shrader valve on the system and come fall you just hook your compresser to the system and blow out the water.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, rather to skid in sideways, body used up and totally worn out screaming 'WOO~HOO what a ride!'
