    Default Sterret Creek Tourney Results

Some know that my brother and I were fishing the State Fair Lions Club tourney yesterday, so I thought I'd post a few results.

Two BIG fish were paid out! The winner? 2.00 pounds even. Second biggest fish was a 1.96!!

There were 63 boats entered. The top 10 paid out! We actually finished in 12th place and we were very excited for a few reasons that I'll discuss in a second. Boats were allowed to weigh in up to 10 fish. Let me tell you that there were many, many limits caught. Most of the boats were even overheard that they were culling.

Our trip went like this...Friday afternoon we hit the ramp at about 3:30 PM. Using dad's boat (1980's version Glass stream bass boat with an 80's model Johnson 150). Outboard did not want to start. We always have problems with this piece of sh*^. Anyway, after about 20 tries we finally get Old Bessie running. Headed over toward state park (didn't want to venture too far due to outboard) and caught 2 or three dinks in about 3 hours of fishing.

Get ready to head back and...you guessed it. Outboard won't start!!!! We tried and tried and tried to get it started while using trolling motor (for 45 minutes) to get out of the long cove that we were in. It was getting dark at this point and little brother was getting stressed. Starting battery was getting very weak. Finally, after 30 or 40 total tries, she started again and we hurried back to the ramp and loaded up.

Stayed at Sterret Creek campground and dealt with some rain while asleep in the tent (yes, tent). Next morning brings cold pizza and Welch's grape soda. We put the boat in the water (not expecting much) and attend the pre tourney meeting. Down to the boat we go and...you guessed it!! She would not start AGAIN. Total disappointment and depressed that we can't even leave the marina to fish a tourney that we paid to enter.

Rather than leave, we decided to head across the cove from the marina (using trolling motor of course) and at least fish for a while. Get over there, and low and behold, we start to catch some crappie. We can't believe it. Brother turns the rear aerator on and within 3 minutes, the back of the boat starts filling with water (the battery's are almost covered). So using the trolling motor, we motor all the way over to the ramp (took 15 minutes) and haul the boat out of the lake to drain it (yes we tried the bilge but it couldn't keep up). Later we determined that the aerator hose had sprung a leak and was emptying water right into the rear of the boat.

So we use the trolling motor again to go back across the cove to finish catching our limit (which we did by 11:00 AM). Total fish count was about 25 crappie (10 to weigh in/15 to eat), 4 bass (biggest 3 1/2 pounds), 1 catfish, and 1 yellow perch. The 10 that we weighed in were all between 11 and 13 1/2" in length. We just could not believe that we would catch any fish after the way our morning started, let alone to have our limit caught before noon. Our total weight for 10 fish was 11.22 pounds and our BIG fish was 1.19 pounds. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, we were very excited to even have any fish to weigh in, let alone finish 12 out of 63 boats. It was a great weeekend to be fishing. We should also be down there the next two weekends as well. If we can figure this stupid outboard out.

Anyone got a reliable boat for sale?????????? Thanks for reading!

Sounds like you turned around what could have been a crappy day. I would say 12th was pretty good with some of the big guns fishing that tournament. Congrats. They had some nice used bass boats down at the two dealers in Warsaw. Depends how much you want to spend. I may know of a 2003 Procraft with a 115 merc on it.

Congrats on a respectable finish. Boats can be fickle, but this will force a good going over of the boat. Then you'll have confidence in the boat and your fishing.

Are you positive you caught "yellow perch" in Truman? That is a first for me, and I've been fishing Missouri all my life. You sure they weren't Green Sunfish?

Sounds like a you did well and overcame the problems. What to stay on them and represent CDC well.

Thanks all!! I just took the boat to a repair shop here in Columbia to hopefully get it looked at this week. Probably needs a carb kit again...
