You don't see many of those!
well... I didn't keep it...I really don't know the regs, either. I'm not positive of this, but I believe this was a lake sturgeon, and I'm also thinking the mdc has been trying to re-stock them and that they are protected?? I know a person can keep shovel nose sturgeon, but I don't think they get this big....I have caught many shovel nose, around 2ft long, common and easy to catch with a worm on sandy bottom...they go back too. if it was a lake sturgeon, it really wasn't all that big. I have friends that at certain times of the year, catch 50lber's on a fairly regular basis, and the occasional 60+ too.
I doubt if it was a pallid sturgeon, I think they are pretty rare around here. I know 1 thing, the way these fish fight to the end, I have a new respect for those guys fishing for 500lb whites in the pacific north west!!
South point that is a nice one what part of the Mississippi were you on? I've been out at winfield the past couple of weekends chasing walleye if you see a silver Skeeter stop and say high.
Balzout Mounts
I was a few miles south of you, fishing just below Melvin Price (Alton) lock and dam . any luck with the 'eye bite, yet? I understand they are biting pretty good on tributaries of the missouri, already.
