Out of the 300+ beds i have on loz there are about 6 of them made out of pvc and out of those 6 i can catch decent fish off of 1 of them a few weeks a year, natural cover in my opinion is the only way to go,i'm sure some have had great success on pvc but i just aint one of em.......as far as the origional question i agree with Jim a big ole flathead or blue cat or two will do a number on all those dink crappie,a buddy had a 3 acre lake that got overrun with little crappie until he put 6 blues in his pond now you rarely catch any dinks.

Thanks for this post, Bugs...I was always thinking that someday, when I get to sinking some cover, I was going to go for longevity by using pvc and maybe even a buncha zip ties to look like twigs. but it gets expensive and if they don't produce like natural wood, well....why bother?

Thanks poor country boys got to improvise and use what we can get our hands on. If anyone would like free oak you can get it in Springfield at "vermillions" (I think that's how its spelled)

That sure looks good. You boys from Springfield can bring me a trailer load of that stuff. I would trade a day on the lake for a pickup load of that stuff. I am out of buckets now so I better scout out some more of them to. I did see a guy who was using plastic tubs and oiled them up before pouring then when sacrete dried they would pop out of tub and could use the tubs over and over. I would also like to make some out of oak like my PVC beds. About 6 ft long with 4ft "limbs" stocking out. Use 4" and fill with rocks or sacrete and lay it down with the limbs sticking up. Would have to make me some type of trough to pour them with wood. Just seems easier to me than trying to get them to stand up. Plus most of mine are in shallow water.
