Clinton Lake in Kansas.
Hello fourm, I have a buddy driving up from St. Louis this weekend (as if you couldn't guess that one:D) But he is looking to fish all day Saturday and most of the night. If you had to choose between all the lakes within 50 miles of Kansas City MO or KS and you wanted to get on some good sized crappie and decent numbers what would it be? Btw I have an under water light I've been dying to try for crappie fishing.
Clinton Lake in Kansas.

Clinton is definately on the list I've never fished there before but hear the have some nice crappie. Do you think they'll be in the timer near the channel drops now?
I fished Clinton earlier this week and did fairly well. Caught some nice fish near channel breaks, but they have really started pulling water and that started yesterday and will go through the weekend. I imagine the bite will slow down as the lake is going to drop a foot. If you can make a little extra trip I would consider Melvern. Its only around 3-4 high right now and they have been doing pretty well over there.
Chadku is right about Melvern but according to this

you might have a chance to fish Clinton on Saturday with the lake still rising.
As of this view they are releasing 800 today Saturday and Sunday and the lake level will be going up about .2 ft a day. It looks like they will be opening it up to 1800 on Monday.
This is a USACE site and seems to be fairly accurate even though last Friday I fished Melvern thinking they were releasing 500 and had a decent day fishing. That evening on checking this site it indicated that Melvern had been pinched off that day. I usually check this site for my lakes before going out.
Anyhow good luck.
