Mike-anytime your getting shad from smithville post up-I can't throw a net worth a dang, and would make you a trade for some.1 ice cold oat soda=12 shad??
My grandpa passed down his boat to my dad in 84 before he died, and he's gone ahead and given it to me. Bought it right around when I was born (1978). We used to go to perry about every other weekend in the summer. Be out the door by 4am and on the lake before sunrise to catch shad with a cast net to use for bait. Fish all day, usually catch a limit or a little more, and be home before the sun went down.
I still fish the same spot when I take my friends. Drop it in and camp at old town, run down to the rocky point about 1/4 down the lake, and drift back up north towards the bridge. I imagine our boat's pulled enough fish out of the water to sink it many times over. A good thing is we don't have to get up or leave early anymore. I go to Longview lake to catch the shad. On a thursday night right before the sun sets that whole lake comes alive with schools of them. Usually only takes 1-2 tosses of the net to get enough on ice for the whole weekend.
I'll be headed up to smithville this weekend, camping friday and staying until sunday if the crappie are biting. I hope this warm front brings them up on the banks.
