We aren't too far apart, I just ordered a new Blazer from Ernie's, Clearwater is probably the first place I'll try it out.

Wife & I retired late '20 & decided to move back "home" from NC & landed in Osceola. I was born & raised in LV Co. KS & my wife's from IL, so we figured here was the perfect compromise & could not be happier with our choice.

So. I retired from the Army out of Ft Bragg in '08 after 20 years in. Went back to college at 42 to become a Medical Laboratory Technician & worked in the Special Chemistry at Labcorp in NC till we decided to bail on the rat race. Glad to be back in the midwest & on the free side of that state line to our west.

Like to get out & cruise the back roads on my Harley from time to time. Avid shooter & reloader, occasional hunter & enthusiastic newb/reentry angler.

Haven't fished since I was a kid, fishing my grandpa's farm ponds for stunted bullheads & occasionally running bank lines on the creek for big cats. With all the great fishing nearby, I bought a used little 15' mod V with 25hp tiller & been getting on the water a couple times a month this summer. Done a ton of reading & asking stupid questions, got some decent-ish gear, etc., but there's no replacement for experience & with this summer's heat, we mostly got to experience patience & I've only had to wash my hands after fishing twice this year. Hoping that'll change with the cooler weather.

Primarily interested in crappie right now, but would like to get into some whites & hybrids, as well as walleye. I won't chase catfish, but I won't throw any eaters back. I'm not a trophy guy & my wife & I would eat fish every meal if we could- I'm more interested in spending time on the water with family & having some fun catching supper. I'd absolutely love to get into some bluegill, but have no idea where. We just dug a 1/4 acre spring fed pond in the front pasture, but until I grow some 'gills out in it, I'd hugely appreciate any tips on where a fella might could get into some keeper bream within an hour or so of Osceola.

Great post Carl. Thanks for you service. I was at Bragg for 19 years myself. Retired from service in ‘16.

Thank you. I was assigned to Bragg for my final 13 years, though I only spent 8 years physically on Bragg, with trips to Germany, the Balkans & Africa. Same old song & dance- go airborne & go on jump status at Bragg & you'll never leave again for very long. Especially when I reclass'd PSYOP, as even our AIT & NCOES schools were at Bragg.

HATED Fayetteville, but loved NC, so we moved a couple hours north, half way between Durham & Greensboro & stayed there till last year. It was nice & we had good friends there, but no family. We were fortunate to retire so early & decided it was time to go "home" to a cozy house on a private/secluded patch of dirt. Multiple cross country house hunting trips led us here & we love it. Wife was born & raised a city girl & was a little hesitant about living way out in the country, but is becoming a fan quickly. Even likes to get out in my little fishing boat & get hooks wet with me.

Very cool. I was in 6th POB from early '99 through late '08, minus a 3 year vacation to SOCEUR. Small World. Probably bumped into one another on a jump or chute shake. I remember some intense little Asian female rigger that went to HALO school around that time. Ever have to deal with Carney? He was miserable as a MSG & even worse as CSM, especially Grp CSM. Ugghh. Part of why I retired.

Your talking about SGT Bush. I did deal with him. I left POG and went to COSCOM, Corps, 101 ABN, Germany and Korea and the retired.
