Default Shad = Larger Crappie in 08

I have been thinking about my fishing over the last few years. Last year I caught a lot of crappie in the 8-9 inch range and at times I would catch 30-40 to get a limit of 15. This year I have caught less crappie but they have been larger fish. I have seen more shad this year than I can remember in a long time. I think that we will be catching larger crappie in 08 and to boot this years spawn will have more fry survive with the preditor fish having more shad to eat. I think 08 will be a banner year for crappie fishing and I am looking forward to it.

sounds like a good thought to me . I have noticed more shad this year than ever. stockton was so high this year the fish spawned it tops of trees... and it was so low last summer I was parking my truck next to some of my brush piles... winter on stockton will be fun.10 1/2 to 11 in will make me happy good eating size can throw those once in a while slabs back for later..

Do you think that there's more shad in all the lakes this year? I wonder if the high water this spring and summer had anything to do with it? I remember some past years when we caught really nice size class slabs on Truman the years after a flood, but I just assumed it was because fewer fish were taken out during the spawn.

I can tell ya every species appeared to have a good fry this year. When the water was up I seen fry everywhere even gar fry which I hardly ever see.

I also received some second hand info on a small lake in KS that hold large fish. The indiviual was told by conservation agent that the flood a few years back was reason for large fish caught now.
    Truman flooded this year.
    Hope LOZ floods.:D :D
