Well things changed just in time for my family 3 day trip.
Thursday, 3 boats, 6 fishermen, 6 crappie. Brutal, brutal wind.
Friday got a hot lead. 2 boats, 4 fishermen, zero bites. Still windy, fish EVERYWHERE on live and down image, could not get within 20 feet of them, tried shutting down all motors, tying off, didn’t matter they were just plain skiddish. Tried Spec’s trick and pitched into them no luck.
Saturday 1 boat, 4 fisherman, 37 crappies. Brutal wind returned. They had been running some water so we thought about trying the weir for hybrids but when we got there the rough seas and no other fishermen in sight we decided to try the dead water. We walked out across the channel where the dead and discharge meet and joined the other 35 boats.
We picked up a couple nice slabs at 12ft but everything I was marking was 15-20 and thick. I dropped a line down and quickly picked up a gar. We decided to avoid them. But all the other boats were catching much more frequently. Most of them were pitching single poles and reeling forever when they did catch. So we dropped all the lines down to 15-20ft and the yield increased dramatically. Lots of shorts. Most of the other boats gave up and moved on. After about 4 we looked like rock stars, 2 at once several times but still lots of shorts to weed through but after the last 2 days it was a welcomed change.

Good update Jake and congrats. I am not stable enough for the high wind days!

Took a friend from work and his wife Friday, we managed 2 limits but most were 9-10 inch with a few nice ones mixed in. Looks like you did better than us on average size lol. About the same depth Friday as well.
Any pics and specifics?
