    Default Smithville After Thanksgiving

Had some great trips over the years right after Thanksgiving but today wasn't one of them.

We caught several and a couple every place we stopped which was several spots. Not a lot of size but a few keepers here and there and not many as far as numbers from one spot but did see lots and lots of fish on the graphs. They must still be eating leftovers?

Oh well good to get out and catch a few and get COLD!

Thanks for your report. I can imagine how cold it was…I froze in a treestand.

At least you got out and gave it a shot, planned on doing that but didn’t work out. Now the weather went south, next weekend looks better, highs in the 50’s, 30’s in the morning, no wind might work.

Anti-minnow I feel your pain, last time out, no minnows, but threw several different colors at them once I actually found a few, red/chart tube jig with 1/32 head worked the best. Don’t know why, but seems to be a good color combo for me in the cold water. But I still love my minners lol

I have a couple of "minnow boys" who are addicted to their boats as well that I fish with. Despite fact I out ketch them most days simply on the bank with jigs they just can't help themselves. I will go with them.

Hey Bill we may need to stage an intervention. Smithville After Thanksgiving

I will admit there has been two times in dozens of trips with them when crappie wanted meat and I in my weakness used parts of minnows on my jigs. I am so ashamed. Not.

Hey, Kev....we didn't have anything smaller than a 1/16th. I looked! And...I thought about red/chart but...never got that far. Hell, I *thought* about a lot of things while standing there trying to convince ONE of the HUNDREDS of fish on the graph to bite. Bill actually switched from his white/chart to his blue/chart. I switched from a blue/white hair jig to a orange/chart hair jig. That's about as far as we got, though. Oh...and I was messing with nibbles (pink) for a bit. Didn't seem to help. Bill even broke out the Slab Sauce to no avail.

Bill says it's not that we're bad at catching...it's that the crappie are bad at being caught!

That or perhaps there's a new strain of crappie out there that were born without mouths?!
