    Default A Different Kind of Fish - Matagorda Bay


    In Texas for a quick family visit and went bay fishing. Haven't done it in a long time. We had great day!

    All of us caught a limit of speckled trout and we had 1 flounder and one red fish we released. After our limit of trout we caught 6 more keepers but throwing back. We also caught about 15-20 shorts but by shorts they were all close; between 13 an 14.5, keepers are 15"

    All artificial baits which was a blast, most use live shrimp. Great day, great weather and great fishing.

    Great place for quality trout. Usually lots of eating size reds
    One of the first places I fished inshore saltwater.

    One of my I want to do that things. Looks like some good fun. Do they taste any better than regular trout? Do not really care for rainbows or brown trout.

    I haven't had any in a while but remember them being good. I flew so no easy way to get them home. Our Houston crew has had crappie and tell me a lot like that but still said crappie was better.

    Nothing like freshwater trout. No bones in the filet, very meaty fish. The skin is very thin and can be tricky to filet. Personally find them best deep fried. The taste is similar to crappie but a little firmer.
