Around here folks fish them in the colder months
When do the crappie congregate around them? I fished some Thursday and caught 7. I tried again Monday and only got 1. We used to do pretty good on them. It had been several years and I don’t remember what month was best. Any help will be appreciated.

The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Once the water cools and then you get sun and warmth they will move in for an easy meal. Crappie just follow the bait.
Maybe it is just the lake. I switched to one 30 miles farther north and got a limit. The water temp and clarity were almost identical.
I’m going back today and see if it was a fluke. There are lots of brush piles but I have never been very good catching crappie from them.

I imagine they can be good any time of year depending on the location. A big tree blown off of a bluff into deep water would probably be excellent in the winter/summer, and one on a shallow bank would likely be good in the spring and fall. They're no different than any other kind of cover.

I went back and took my neighbor. We caught 50 and kept 30. So I guess in the right place lay downs are ok.
