Thumbs up Truman 09/03 and 09/05

We headed out on Sat to chase the crappie and well it wasn't so productive. Before 9am we were catching a lot of fish with only a few keepers. After 9am I just cruising the lake search for fish that want to bite. Monday morning the same thing took place. Up to the point where the sun came out for about 15 mins, the bite was good with 10 fish and only 3 keepers. After that they shut off. I'm struggling to get fish in the boat. It's frustrating, but I try to make the best of it. I changed size of bait and colors with ZERO luck and even minnows. UGH

Monday I did find a small group of trees with a hand full of big fish. This guy was hiding just below the crappie and before the crappie could take my jig, I set my hook into it and the fight was on! I love my 13' ACC crappie stix and Just Another Crappie Jig Company pearl head with smoke and orange body! Of course my free scale is bow broken, but it had a tape measurer on it, so that helped me sneak into the top spot of the largest fish tourney "Other" category. 8)

Something I learned on my guide trip last week, try the Crappie Bomb spoon with a minnow. Color didn't seem to matter, just put in front of them and watch your line. They were eating the minnow without feeling them. Just the line would move, raised up and they were on.

A friend of mine mentioned dead sticking and watching the line. I watched a lot of fish just school up around the jig and then move away.

Watching a 13' rod doubled over as your line pulls off the reel and the drag screaming... this is why we do it! Well not necessarily for Crappie, but when I chased bass, striped bass and ocean fish. SCREAMING REELS!!!
