If they aren't on the bank, cast out farther and deeper!
Hi everyone, I'm going to be up by Mark Twain this weekend and will have an opportunity to stop by and bank fish Mark Twain on Sunday afternoon through Monday. The reports from the MT Facebook page are that they are still on the banks but fishing is getting tougher. Do you guys/gals have any suggestions for what I can expect the fishing to be like after the front passes through? High temp today is 90ish and Sun/Mon will only be 64 with possibly 1/3 inch of rain tomorrow. I haven't crappie fished much and would appreciate having some idea of what this weather change will do to the fish.
Thanks!
Joe
I don't know Mark Twain, but that is what happens at Pomme de Terre, so I suspect it is the same there.

as a mostly bank guy and who got a fishing report yesterday on MT would say go to gravel bank and initially cast along bank foot off shore with 6 inches of line and lighter jig like 16th or even 32nd looking for reaction bit and if males are still in close. if nothing then go out a foot o line and gradually move farther off shore and cast parallel to bank then farther with a 1 eighth jig and longer line.
Fancast around starting shallow and then go deeper till you find them. including as far as you can. Try bobber and straight lining till you find them. it's a process but they are still hanging around shore and females are still full of eggs so they all havn't finished yet. plus move, if not getting bit keep going till you find a concentration.
Wed and Thur we caught them in five to twelve fow using blk/chart jigs. Most were females with eggs although some of the eggs were getting kind of funky looking.

Thanks for the info everyone, I appreciate it!
I tried the fan casting that hdhuntr suggested and did find some smaller fish in 2-4' of water which were fun to catch but never hooked up with any slabs. It was a good time and a learning experience for sure. Walking the steep bank at MT made for an interesting bank fishing trip. Thanks again.
