Default LOZ 6/7/2020 Light and Night

Tazstone and I teamed up to get 30. Trolled crankbaits before dark and caught 9 then got the rest after dark with minnows. We had quite a few big fish and some bonus white bass. Name: Resized_20200607_235444.jpg

Those are some nice ones. Did you catch the bigger ones trolling or with the light. Good night of fishing.

How do you fish with the light? I have a green LED light and haven’t had a lot of successes. Deep? Just under the water?

Typically I night fish post spawn through the summer in deep water. I think post spawn they are more related to deep water structure like bluffs and when the heat sets in they get a little more in the brush. November and early December when the water is in the 50's can also be very good. Sometimes I hang the light only a couple feet down but typically sink it 5 to 8 feet. Look at your graph to see where the fish are....you can waste a lot of time dropping all the way to the bottom because usually the fish are suspended. We caught big fish both trolling and after dark.

Dumb question: So, with no standing timber to speak of on LOZ, how do you night fish? Anchor? Bridge piers? or find an isolated tree in the channel?

Most of the time the wind dies down pretty good to where you can drift or put the trolling motor on very low and basically stay in one spot. If you have spot lock that would be the way to go or you can anchor. Any docks that have brush you can just slow troll around them. Once crappie get around the light they will suspend outside the brush....I hardly ever fish deep enough to get hung up. It's really not any different than rigging but I just use two poles. You also need some buddies that own condos bc those can be killer.
