    Default Aerator / livewell question

Just got back from a week on Lake Fork and had nothing but problems with the portable battery operated aerator for my Engel bait cooler. I want to rig a system on my boat that I can get air to my bait cooler as well as my livewell and was wondering what you guys are using. Maybe something I can rig on a timer with a switch?

    Thanks guys!

I heard there were a lot of people who were having issues with those and swapped them out for a different brand. Can’t remember the brand but I think it was a type for aquariums. I swapped mine for a Frabill portable aerator.

Can you control both outlets or do they both have to run if the unit is on?

They both run, however, you can use a "t" and have both hoses running one outlet. I do this if I'm only using the live well or the minnow bucket. Of course that involves unplugging and reconnecting hoses depending on what you need or you can drop both outlets in whichever well you need it in.

Exactly what BarryG said. Get some aquarium tubing and run it to the parts of your boat you want air. Both outlets pump air constantly. I cut a small piece of aquarium tube and put a screw in the end to block the side I’m not using. You will also need an aquarium back flow connector on each tube. That way you can use one or both sides of the pump as you want.

Speck, so both hoses are coming off a common source? I wasn't sure if I blocked on it would double the other are put a strain on the pump. Good to know, that is easier than swapping hoses.

Yes, the 12V air pump has two outlets. I’m not sure if blocking one side doubles the output or not but it seem to supply more air to the side in use. Could be my imagination. I’ve used mine like that for years. The good thing about them, I’ll fill a larger cooler with minnows and keep air on them while I have my 19 qt Engle with minnows up by me as I fish. I have air running to both

They have individual pumps for each side. Won’t increase flow if you block one off I have one to my bucket and one to livewell. Won’t hurt it with that check valve on it to just let it run open.
