Default Best spider rig rod for a newbie

Wanting to push cranks and jigs this coming year. Rod holders will be millennium r100s. Thinking about the Ozark pro or signature series in 14’. Planning on buying 4 and running two on each side then if we like it adding two more either the same or maybe going 16’. Haven’t ever had a long rod setup before, is this going too hard too fast? Or is this a buy once cry once thing? I really want to get my kids on some crappie and this sounds like a good way to keep them from getting bored. Most of my other gear is ul stuff in the 6’ range or under that I don’t figure would work well at all off the front so using what I’ve got is probably not an option. Lake will generally be pomme or Stockton if that matters, pomme more frequently. Any advice is appreciated.

I would start out with 14’ rods first. These long rods are definitely a different animal once out on the water with them

Is 14 wise or should I back off to 12? Anything else about the setup that I should think about?

I think starting with 14’s would be good. And if you plan on pulling cranks in the summer go ahead and start your crank bait collection now.

Oh I have been for the last few months. Cabela’s has a bunch of stuff on clearance and I may be in the doghouse with the wife but we can lose about a hundred cranks before I start getting worried about it.

I found Bandit 300’s at Tacklewarehouse.com for $4.00 each last year, I don’t remember what time of year exactly but just keep looking. Ebay, Craigslist or even Amazon. Just keep your eyes peeled.

We have fished with Ozark rods for several years now and have never had a problem with them.

Ozarks are good! Buy once CRY once! Don't go shorter than 14'!

Call Grizzly Jig. They did have a great sale on the Ozark's. Talk to them one of those 2 is stiffer than the other. They are really good rods.
