    Default Wappapello report...ON THE BANK

I fished wapp. yesterday after work. We got there at 4 and fished till 8:15. We started on the flats in 7-8' and caught a few small fish. Then moved to 5' down to 2'.....not many fish hitting at all. We fished three different creek/coves...this only means one thing usually....ON THE BANK!!!!

Moved to the bank and I caught 15 keepers and my buddy with me got 3...LOL. Two were over 1.5# and the rest we kept were mostly over 3/4#. It got dark and they were still hittin so if they werent plainly big enough to keep without measuring we threw em back(no flashlight). We probably threw back some just slightly over 9".

I got a report from another guy today that they were on the bank . He got "about 30" in 2.5 hours. We also talked to a guy at the ramp that had about 20 that were mostly 3/4# or larger and he got em on the bank dippin stickups.

The time is right.....morel mushrooms, turkeys gobblin, and crappie on the bank!!!!!

    Well....

One friend went during the day and they got 60 keepers from 9-12 yesterday mornin....called all excited and we had high hopes....WE SHOULD HAVE GONE WHERE HE WENT, but I wanted to go back where we were the night before.

We went again last night to the same spot we caught em the evening before. We only got 5 keepers???????

Two of my buddies were fishing also. One did not catch a keeper, and the other two had 27 nice ones. The lake was PACKED for a weekday.....word travels FAST!!!! The banks were gettin pounded....we probably fished some well used water...LOL

Hey all you guys fishing Wap. Don't forget the CUSA tournament 4/7/2007. Come out and win some money, you're gonna be fishing anyway. They need a good turnout to keep this thing going.

I'll be over there Thursday Evening.
Any recommendations on where to camp?

Have no clue where to start fishing. From years past tournament reports, there are some nice fish in Wap. But the reports from most that I have talked to said there are large numbers of crappie, but not a lot of size. I only have Friday to pre-fish, so it looks like I'll have to rely in intuition.
I figure with most reports, I'll be lucky to pull 3 lbs in seven fish.

It depends where the tournament is launching from, and if you want to stay close to that ramp.

If its out of Chaonia, Bowman has some great cabins and campsites right there next to the ramp.

oops forgot to get you info

Don't know number off the top of my head though, sorry

If its starting out of Redman boat ramp you have the choice of either Redman Creek or People's creek campgrounds. Free launching at redman boat ramp with payment of camping fees and location would make Redman the better one of the two. Here's a link to call or make reservations in the Corps campgrounds:

Depends on this next cold spell. Temps forecasted to get close to or freezing starting wednesday night. My guess would be deeper channels and creeks. Usually pretty good in Asher creek (state park cove), Lost creek, and the islands around Chaonia this time of year.
    Hope this helps.
Good luck in the tourney to everyone who's fishing in it.

I live at Wappapello about 100 yards from the Redmond Creek Campgrounds. All camp grounds opened March 30.
