Thumbs up Looking for some Truman Lake help

    Hello everyone,

Been watching this website for awhile now but have only posted a few times. Seems like a very active forum for getting good crappie info.

Figure there are bound to be arms where the temp is 55' or more. If I'm looking for spawning crappie (not pre-spawn) next week what should I be looking for?

    1. Find an arm with water flowing into it or just any arm? Arms that come in from the north or south?
    2. Gravel banks with a 45' angle or less?
    3. Banks facing north or south?

Thanks for any and all replies!

I would say you are several weeks early to find spawning Crappie. But creeks on the upper end of the lake are usually first have fish move in to the banks. I have never really seen a difference between banks facing north or south. I rarely fish the banks "unless trying to put Smithville guys with gas on their hands on fish Looking for some Truman Lake help " but usually more gentle sloping banks close to the steep banks are best for me. Right where the bank makes that change from steep and large rock to where it changes to flater slope and smaller gravel or mud.

Thanks for the info! I agree about it's probably too early for the spawn. Been a long cold winter that just now seems to be giving way to spring.Thought I read that banks facing north tend get the most sun so they warm faster but maybe that doesn't make enough difference to the fish.

My experience on Truman is "find the right arm, and you'll be on". They will bite on Tebo and not Pomme. Grand but not Osage, etc. Either find advanced knowledge from locals or trial and error it- and move until you find them

We fished from the bank and by casting parallel to the bank from walkways to the docks on Sunday and Monday nights. We used bobbers with the jigs about 3'-3.5' down and caught a lot of crappie.
ps. Yeah, it was COLD (33 degrees with a wind).
