I live in Blue Springs and fish Blue Springs Lake up until the point that school is out. At that point the lake gets a lot of traffic. I have never (knock on wood) had an issue with catching my limit of bass every trip out, have some success with crappie (though I have never went there with the mindset to only crappie fish). Once May gets here, we switch over to Prairie Lee. There we fish at least 5 times a month. It is a smaller lake, but has some restrictions that I like. No jet skis/wave runners on weekends or holidays, no alcohol, boats are supposed to travel all in the same direction and there is very little traffic on the like before 11:00. There I have had success with cats, crappie and bass. It took a couple of years to figure out where the crappie were at, but now that I have found success the same spots keep producing every year. If there are ever any issues with Jet skis / wave runners, the county is a phone call away and they will come right out there. I have had to call a couple of times because you get those not so friendly people that ride them on the weekends (rule breakers) and get a little too close while fishing.
What I don't like is that Prairie Lee is only open from 7:00 to sunset, unless you live on the lake. It is an old private lake that has a lot of big fish in it. Also, the permit that you have to purchase to access the Jackson County Lakes....I don't like it, but I continue to do it every year. If you need any additional info, just let me know.
