I agree, Smithville was the best fall I have had up there in a few years

I live in Blue Springs and fish Blue Springs Lake up until the point that school is out. At that point the lake gets a lot of traffic. I have never (knock on wood) had an issue with catching my limit of bass every trip out, have some success with crappie (though I have never went there with the mindset to only crappie fish). Once May gets here, we switch over to Prairie Lee. There we fish at least 5 times a month. It is a smaller lake, but has some restrictions that I like. No jet skis/wave runners on weekends or holidays, no alcohol, boats are supposed to travel all in the same direction and there is very little traffic on the like before 11:00. There I have had success with cats, crappie and bass. It took a couple of years to figure out where the crappie were at, but now that I have found success the same spots keep producing every year. If there are ever any issues with Jet skis / wave runners, the county is a phone call away and they will come right out there. I have had to call a couple of times because you get those not so friendly people that ride them on the weekends (rule breakers) and get a little too close while fishing.

What I don't like is that Prairie Lee is only open from 7:00 to sunset, unless you live on the lake. It is an old private lake that has a lot of big fish in it. Also, the permit that you have to purchase to access the Jackson County Lakes....I don't like it, but I continue to do it every year. If you need any additional info, just let me know.

If you can catch a limit of bass at Blue Springs every time out you should be fishing the weekly tournaments and supplementing your money clip.

KC is 2 hours easy drive on 4 lane divided from the Ozarks (the REAL Ozarks, not "the lake of the", though it is available also). A bunch of good lakes and fishing of all types. Locally there are several lakes in MO & KS available, also a variety of species. I consider Truman local, around an hour drive for me, depending where I launch. Crappie, bass, walleye, hybrids, white bass (sand bass in OK, no idea what they are called in TX).
Let us know if you decide to move on up (kinda like the Jeffersons) KC folks on here will steer ya right.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.

We were going to move to KC for the grandkids and looked at all the lakes in the area. Finally, made the right decision and moved to Clinton-- the town and not the lake. We're an hour and change from the grandkids, 15 minutes from a good launch on upper Truman, 30 minutes from Warsaw and the head of Lake of the Ozarks and within spitting distance of strip pits.

The move was a good one with cheap homes, low taxes and a number of things that are oriented toward seniors (plus good medical services). The only real downside is that you have to travel for things like Lowes or Home Depot. However, there is a good tackle store in town...

Damn fine decision. They'll visit you, cause you take them fishing. I love it when a plan comes together.

Clinton would have been my choice. I like the city but I don't like the drive to a good fishing hole. Wife doesn't fish so I'm pretty well stuck here.
