    Prayer Request James A Reed?

Hey all! My niece and I are heading out to try to fill our freezer this afternoon. We are in the Jackson Co. area and am thinking about heading to Reed, but haven't seen any posts from there lately. Is the spawn over there or did they just never really do their thing? Also wondering if we should just head up to Smithville since I know the spawn is on there. Fished Smithville with husband a few nights ago and caught lots of fish, but nothing over 9". Fishing from bank. Any advise would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

James A Reed spawn happens really early, end of March to early part of April. Those small lakes are shallow and heat up quickly.

All fish (except unable to reproduce hybrid fish) spawn. Every year. Without fail. Generally in the same areas.
Maybe not when we think they should, but they do it. Water temperature, light penetration, etc. control it.
I don't fish James A. Reed Area so do not have any info on crappie bite.
Good luck to you, great you are taking a kid fishing.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.

LOL! The "kid" I took fishing is my 43 year old niece! We always have a great time no matter what we're doing. We ended up going to Smithville. I was able to catch 2 nice slabs each about 12" and a few dinks. Unfortunately she wasn't as lucky, but still had fun. Went back on Mother's day with my husband and again caught a couple more nice ones. He picked up a good sized perch so we added it to the basket. Not a lot of fish, but lots of fun! Can't wait to get back.
