    Default Anyone float the Sac

I'm thinking about renting a canoe at Caplinger Mills this spring to fish from.

My concern is that my floatmates and me are inexperienced and drowning doesn't appeal to me. A simple float is one thing but I assume to fish one has to approach not avoid structures.

If your are semi experienced paddlers maybe we could hookup and do this together. I live in K.C. and will provide transportation and the canoe rental.

Yes I have they have a 7 mile trip and a 15 mile. From caplinger to black jack or to 54 hwy I think. My wife and I did it and caught all kinds of fish from crappie on nice easy float. They where not letting water out of the dam when we floated.

Hey thanks, I guess you are saying I'm being paranoid and you don't need an experience paddler to manage this float and fish trip.

Remember Life jackets save lives! Seen a couple (elderly) on the current river, they came upon a log jam in the bend of the river, as we could see they where both scared to death something was going to happen, and we yelled at them to relax and not grab anything, the lady in front ducked under a branch but her husband stiff armed the branch and over they went, she was screaming her head off saying she could not swim ( She and her husband where wearing life jackets ) as we told her to stand up ( about 10 ft down she was in 2 foot of water ) her husband was on top of the log jam, we had to pry him off. Just thought I would mention this because of the fact They had Life Jackets on always be safe. and enjoy your trip

The main thing to remember is that the dam can release water and change flow without warning. Still should bag manageable but pay attention to the SWPA website for scheduled releases. Beautiful stream with lots of fish.

When they open the dam there is a very loud horn. And when we went we ask if they where going to be letting water out or not. As said above always have a life jacket. Was a great trip for us very relaxing float.

Won't be able to hear the horn that far downstream.

I have plenty of cabin fever days to plan. I ordered a wet suit if I can't wait until the temperature gets reasonable. I always wear my life jacket when kayaking but have added additional flotation for the first time. So I'm definitely focused on safety.

When I was younger I was not too worried about safety but I have had a few reminders over the last decade that I have to adapt. I remember retrieving ducks in freezing water without waders as a young man but suspect it would give me a heart attack today.
