    Default Northland (WI) Report

Greetings MO boys (and girls). It's been awhile since I posted an update on my new digs up in Wisconsin and after this weekend, felt now was the time.

Dad's been absolutely hammering big crappie on Mark Twain and I couldn't take it anymore so I told him, "get up here with the boat", so we could go chase some toothy critters. Ran about an hour and a half to Lake Winnebago and trolled crankbaits till dark. Talk about a BIG body of water! Couldn't even see the other end!

Kept 5 good eating walleye and lost what I believe was a BIG sturgeon as I couldn't even turn its head!

Got off the lake around 10:00 P.M. and thought we had located a nice little motel to sleep for a few hours........ yeah, NO. We drove BY it (didn't even pull in) and said, "Hell NO". Back to the ramp we went and slept in my truck. Back up and on the water at 4:30, fishing by 4:45. Kept another 7 good eating walleye and this guy (22.5")!

About 20 minutes after we landed this one, another board went sideways and at first it felt like a catfish. Got the board off and immediately felt the ol "head shake" of a walleye.....Got the fish to the side of the boat (we both saw her in all her glory) and she was easily 30"......However, in all the commotion/excitement my d*mb*ss forgot to loosen the drag and when the fish bumped the boat, she took off and broke me off. Talk about being sick..... even though we would have put her back we REALLY wanted a picture.

Nevertheless, we continued on, caught a few more walleye and my first Wisconsin crappie. Off the water at 10:30 A.M. and back home by noon.

I've also managed to get out on Lake Michigan with a new fishin buddy up here and have really got into the Coho Salmon this year. Talk about some good eats.

Anyway, thought I'd update ya'll...... should be back on Twain in 2-3 weeks as the crankin bite should be picking up.

    U

Thanks for the WI report! Love hearing news from my old stompin' grounds. Been out on Winnebago SEVERAL times. You just missed Walleye Weekend on June 10-12. Bet the lake was a zoo! Not sure where you guys put in, but...there are a LOT of dives around that lake. Spooky places! Sorry 'bout losing the big eye. Sure woulda liked to have seen a pic of that!

"Missed" Walleye Weekend on purpose...... not quite ready to fish that tournament although I heard the bite was super tough. We put in at "Pipe" and the hotel we looked at was north of Brothertown...... truck was the best option, no doubt.

I know it's a ways away but, we booked a full week @ Truman for what I suspect will be next year's Spring Camp. If it works out, I'll bring down some "Cows"...... you must be missin them!

Great looking fish!!! I'd love to get into some eyes like that sometime. Good to see the ice is off the lake already.
