Wapp can give up some good crappie. Two pounders aren't uncommon in the spring. Get a map of the lake and trust the channel buoys. It can get shallow fast if you get out of the channel farther up the river. Jigs and minnows work real well.
Anyone fish Wappapello? If so how is the fishing? I'm looking to move there in the near future and will be right on the lake.

Good to know. I was down there a couple weeks ago but didn't get to fish. We did have a boat and a "tour guide" and he was showing me the contours of the lake on electronics. It's crazy how it will go from 6 feet to 40 feet in the matter of 10 feet.
fished wap on thurs. started at 615am fished until 1pm, had 4 keeps. never could get into the fish or figure out any pattern. tried fishing deep and shallow in deep water that didnt work. tried fishing shallow water 8ft or less. thats where i caught all the keeps i had but one came in 10 ft. had giant buffalo start coming up all around me looked like dolphins coming out the water. finally snagged one bout 30 lbs and broke him off before he did more damage to my other lines. wap is def a fun lake to fish its hard to go and not at least catch lots of dinks. like speck said learn the lake bc 6fow now will b 6" come february. ive stood in the mid of the lake on a sand bar, in knee boots, in march before. follow the bouys and you will b fine. they may look like u r gonna hit the bank but trust me its the channel. for what its worth chartreuse jigs tipped w minnows is what worked best for me.
Fished it for the first time Saturday morning and had about the same story as CRAPPIECON. I ended up with 9 keepers fishing from about 7-12. Easily caught 50+ throw backs as well. Didn't really see a particular pattern with what I caught them on. Ran double minnow rigs and also mixed in Gnats/Minnows. Pretty much caught fish on every color gnat I had on but I will say one thing....a lively minnow was the ticket. Once the minnow got the least bit sluggish you better change out because it would not entice a bite. As soon as I would put on a new minnow..BAM! Being my first time on the lake I didn't venture too far and mainly fished one particular area that stayed 6-10 ft deep.
