Default Above the Dam at Truman Spider Rigging

Got a later start than I really wanted to didn't get to Warsaw until almost 9 am. I talked Paula into setting the boat up to Spider rig for our very first time of doing it. We only had 4, 12 foot poles so we each took 2 and added the extra seat up at the front of the boat. Kind of a new experience for the both of us because we have never used crank baits. Lets just say that even with only 2 rods each it was something of an experience for us.

If it could go wrong it did! Now I remember why I don't like bait caster reels especially small ones. Learned never to use a net with a crank bait. I learned I am not very good with a trolling motor. Worked in front of the dam in 20 to 25 fow. Also worked the west side of the dam and in front of the buoys to the swim beach.

Ended up with a couple of good ones! One on the left is 3.10 pounds and the one on the right was 2.10 pounds. They sure was the largest I have ever caught.

They were kind of frozen when I got them to the house!!

And ended up with this one which wouldn't fit into my measuer!]

Good day to be on the water!

After we go done we went down below the dam to look at the water. No water was coming out except what little they were running for power generation.

Got fish on pink, purple, bull frog. Did realize the amount of work that people put into spider rigging!

Well I have never been in a boat or been around when someone was spider rigging so it was all totally new to me. I sent the pictures to my normal fishing partner. He was laughing that there was bass in the pictures. And he was giving it to me that he thought I never allowed bass in my boat. I told him that they were Special Hybrid Truman Crappie not bass!

I even got a very small walleye on one of my crank baits! I have to say that those were the largest bass I have ever caught. And boy they were fun to land!

Sounds like you and Paula both learned a lot, DW! WTG! I'm sure it will get easier, and "Murphy" will only be an occasional visitor, rather than the star of the show!

So was I all day long! I had the rods setup in the front of the boat off of each side of the trolling motor. My Lowes boat is able to have 2 full sized seats up front.

I all kept thinking was those folks up in the visitors center was sure getting a good show with the 2 morons in the boat having fishing lines go across each other when I would get a fish on! And crank baits and nets don't play nice with each other! And Vic I know "Murphy" was running the trolling motor!

So what does everyone use those rubber nets with crank baits?

Yeah, I've never caught a fish that required a net, but I think the rubber nets help quite a bit with keeping the hooks from snagging

Oh I totally understand your pain! Just ask OSS, if there is a dink in Truman I have either seen it or hooked it! Vic when I put the boat in the water yesterday, I didn't even put the plugs in the live wells or even fill them up with water! its been so bad lately when I take out the wife I only fill her live well because she is the one who catches the fish!

I wonder if I need to contact the visitors center at Truman to see if anyone got us on video yesterday? Might have a money wining video on worst fishermen's TV bloopers!!
