    Default Pomme de Terre 4/11/15

First off even if you have checked out everything on your boat always have a backup plan! Especially if its been a few years since you and it has been out! Knowing it is early in the season and a lot of the stuff on the water is still not open yet I did kind of worry. But early yesterday morning I messaged on Facebook one of my friends Brenda Vaughan of Nemo Marina to see if she would text me on my cell phone if the marina would be open. I am not smart enough to do Facebook from my smart phone. That was one reason we put in at Nemo. And yep Brenda texted me, Brenda is also involved in the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department and also Hickory County Fire Rescue, so I did feel safer. If you get a chance and are able to attend one of the fund raisers for any of the Fire Departments or Rescue please do! These folks provide valuable volunteer services for Hickory County. And you never know if it might be you they are helping. Yesterday Hickory County Fire Rescue was having a school bus roll over training. Ok attention members fishing Pomme the only days that Nemo Marina is closed in April is Wednesday and Thursday.

Well started off forgetting to check the boat kill switch at the ramp! Me and it don't get along sometimes! As fat as I have gotten we have a hard time sharing the room in the boat! Got the boat going had my buddy Marcus and his wife fishing with me and the wife! And I kind of caught Marcus off guard, I promoted him to first seat in charge of the trolling motor in front of the boat! Yeah kind of nice being in the back of the boat for the first time ever. We went to Haverstick, not much working unless you enjoy catching green carp on crappie jigs with 4 pound test line! Marcus scored a couple of nice legal green carp on 1/16 jigs and 4 pound test line and a couple of crappie. Well I was in the back of the boat pulling every color out without any luck. So we decided to go to the Marina and take a soda break and rest the legs.

Decided to start working a few coves west of the marina hitting the banks fishing in 5 to 10 foot of water casting into the banks and also working docks. Did find a cove with small gravel that I was able to work by casting into a foot of water letting the jig die and then working it out to 5 foot of water. Also used jigs tipped with minnows. Didn't catch a lot of fish but sometimes its more about getting out of the house and having a fun days on the water with friends. And yes I won the pot for the most Crappie in the boat, wife won biggest Crappie in the boat, Marcus won the pot for the most green Carp in the boat, and poor Cassy his wife had to put up with the 3 of us! But it was the first time for her being in a boat fishing for Crappie! She is a trouper and learned a lot. She is a Crappie fish killer in farm ponds from the bank! And Cassy is always good with one liners!

Didn't take many pictures as I couldn't afford Jiggin15 photo service on this trip! But here is what we took, hey I was busy fishing!

This is the only thing I could get a hit on. I was using different shades of color of this jig. Plus minnows!

Thanks guys I do have some boat issues to take care of before we go out again. Also I didn't clean any of the fish, I left them at Marcus's house for him to clean! NOWAY will this old boy will I ever be caught cleaning a GREEN CARP! Did talk with Marcus today. All of the crappie had eggs in them but he said they were not bloody. Plus he stated that the fish didn't seem to be really full of eggs like he has seen in the past. So what's going on? Is it just a little early on Pomme yet?
